Vets Golf Tuesdays

Tuesday Vet's 20th January 2015

Before we move onto today’s game, I would like to share with you all a special occasion that occurred on Tuesday 20th at Callala Vets’ AGM, shotgun start stableford day.
I as all other members in attendance at the AGM were privileged to be part of a big thank you to Rosemary and Jack Harris.
This acknowledgment was presented to them by Veteran golfer,Barry Whitlock in the form of a perpetual trophy, named in their honour.
The trophy will be played for each year in the game
following that particular year AGM.
The inaugural winner was to go to a very worthy member in Harry Dowling.
Congratulation Harry, I am sure you are thrilled and
honoured with your win.
For the last sixteen years both Rosie and Jack have
dedicated their time and energy to their beloved Callala Golf Club; Rosie being well loved and valued for her dedication in working the shop each Tuesday Vet’s day.
All Vets agree that without Rosie organising the members each Tuesday and overcoming personalities and egos to ensure the tee offs are kept to schedule and on time, Tuesday Vets would be a shemozzle. With you at the helm tranquillity and order reign.
We love you Rosie!!!!
To Jack who for the last sixteen years has dedicated himself unselfishly to aid his club by stepping up to fill positions such as Captain,Vice Captain, and Secretary for both Men and Vets.
As readers and members will know, Jack has for the last nine years, admirably conducted the business of Vets’ Secretary which has included his reports in the South Coast Register under the pen of “JH”.
These reports are always factual, funny and informative.
Thank you Jack for all your years of dedication and loyalty to Callala Golf Club.

Mens Comp Saturdays

Saturday 31st January 2015

Four ball better ball was the format for today’s eager
competitors.
Ten birdies from the field certainly demonstrated the skill that was amongst the players who of course ranged in handicaps and abilities from those who could and the rest of us who just wished we could.
Also evident in today’s field was an increased number of lady golfers who of course brought with them grace and skill and we would like to extend special thanks to those ladies for taking the time to come and play with us.
One of those lovely ladies was Mhairi Rostron who enjoyed her first Saturday game partnering husband, Andrew Rostron.
Mahairi certainly had a great first day and along with
Andrew racked up a great game that saw them take runner up pair for the day.
To add to the excitement of the day, Andrew won the
individual first place including a birdie chip in from the edge of the green and also took out the converted encouragement award which of course rounded off a really great day for the Rostrons.
Coming home as winning pair for today’s event was Michael Inness and Graham Spring who combined their skills to effect a great win over a field that struggled for reasonable scores.
Congratulations Michael and Graham on your deserved win.
Golf as we all know can be a game that is full of all sorts of surprises and today partnering wife Carmel I witnessed one of those surprises.
Carmel clipped a tree with a chip and the ball promptly went sideways and landed in a fir tree and lodged itself in the upper part of the tree.
It was funny at the time but the penalty stroke for
unplayable certainly was not view by Carmel as being humorous.
Nearest the Pins
Rob Jerman today, although not figuring in the winner’s circle, showed his talent with two nearest the pins and a birdie. Well done Rob!
Doug Ingle and Ilija Sesum accounted for the other two nearest the pins with Doug also scoring one of the birdies on offer for today.
Raffle winners for the day
